Swipewipe by MWM turns photo cleanup into a swipe. You go through your camera roll month by month, swipe right to keep a photo and left to delete it, and take one last look at your choices before you finish a month. It also brings back photos taken on this day in past years (with a home screen widget and streaks), shows the places in your photos on a map, helps you spot similar photos, blurry shots and old screenshots, and can enhance old or blurry pictures with AI.

So why look elsewhere? Swipewipe's free version shows ads, as both of its store pages say, and the developer offers a subscription for an ad-free experience. On iPhone it needs iOS 18 or later. Instead of months, the road runs through 10 worlds, each with its own chapters, a chest and an 8-bit tune. Every chapter is built from your gallery: one year, one colour, your heaviest files, your longest videos, your screenshots. Mori, a purple ghost, walks the road with you. You earn XP, open chests and dress Mori up from the wardrobe. Exact copies and burst shots arrive as a group side by side, with a suggested shot to keep, picked by resolution, file size and your favourites.

Who it suits: you want the swipe without ads, on Android or on an iPhone with iOS 16 or 17, and you like the idea of cleaning as a game.

Slidebox: swipe and sort into albums

Slidebox is as much an organiser as a cleaner. You swipe to delete, tap once to file a photo into an album, mark favourites, swipe between similar photos to choose the ones to keep, and undo any action. Changes go straight to the Photos app and iCloud on iPhone, and to your gallery and Google Photos on Android. It runs on iOS 15 or later and on Android.

Who it suits: you want to sort the photos you keep into albums while you clean, or your iPhone runs iOS 15.

Free version: the App Store page says it contains ads. A subscription or a one-time purchase unlocks the full version, and the page says paid plans include 10,000+ photos and cloud storage for albums.

Wipix: the same swipe, a daily limit instead of ads

Wipix keeps the swipe simple. Left marks a photo, right keeps it, undo reverses your last swipe, and everything you marked is deleted in one batch after you confirm. Photos, videos and screenshots are handled the same way. On top sits a game: 10 levels from Newbie to Pixel King, daily streaks and a weekly leaderboard against other people cleaning their galleries. Your photos never leave your device, and there is no account. It runs on iPhone and iPad with iOS 15.1 or later and on Android.

Who it suits: you clean in small daily bites and like to compete on a leaderboard.

Free version: delete up to 50 photos a day and keep as many as you like, with every level, streak and the leaderboard included. Premium removes the daily limit.

Photo Monster: month by month, no ads, a monster to feed

Photo Monster goes through your library month by month, like Swipewipe: swipe left to delete, right to keep, one photo at a time, starting anywhere and picking up where you left off. Every photo you delete feeds your monster, and sorting earns rewards you spend in a shop on collectibles and themes. You can file photos into albums as you go, and a daily streak makes the rewards bigger. Photos never leave your iPhone, and there is no account.

Who it suits: you liked Swipewipe's month-by-month order, you want no ads, and your iPhone runs iOS 18.6 or later.

Free version: no ads. The app is supported by optional in-app purchases. We did not find it on Google Play.

Tidy: a full toolkit with AI and a photo editor

Tidy uses the same swipe, right to keep and left to drop, and adds a lot around it. AI finds blurry photos, duplicates and similar photos and picks the best shot of a group. There is a compare mode, a swipe up to sort a photo into an album, and a photo editor with more than 30 filters. Daily challenges, streaks and levels from Rookie to Legend keep you coming back. The AI works on the device and photos are never uploaded. It runs on iPhone and iPad with iOS 18 or later and on Android.

Who it suits: you want blurry and similar photos found for you and an editor for the keepers, and ads or a subscription do not put you off.

Free version: both store pages say it shows ads. Tidy Gold removes all ads and unlocks unlimited AI filters.
